Egypt condemns the latest nuclear test by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Egypt is greatly concerned about Pyongyang's failure to commit to UN Security Council resolutions in this regard, which poses a threat to the regional security in East Asia, the statement said.

The DPRK on Sunday successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb that can be carried by an intercontinental ballistic missile, DPRK's Central Television announced.

This was the sixth nuclear test the DPRK has undertaken.

The test deals a blow to the nuclear non-proliferation system, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's statement said, adding that UNSC resolutions and principles of international law should be honored.

"International conflicts should be peacefully settled in line with those resolutions and principles," the statement stressed.

The continued escalation on the Korean peninsula fuels tension and instability, and can very well lead to an arms race in the region, the statement said.
