After closing one department store on Nanjing Road East for renovations and an upgrade, another Orient Shopping Center (OSC) located in Yangpu district, is now planning a major refurbishment, Shanghai Morning Post reported Monday.

The store will be transferred into the first city outlet under Bailian Group, of which OSC belongs, by Spring Festival of next year. With its first store built in downtown Xujiahui in 1992, OSC saw rapid success. However, in recent years, old-fashioned department stores saw dwindling sales due to the rise of new and trendy malls.

The transfer aims to turn the store into a more competitive business in the Wujiaochang area. The new outlet will not copy the Qingpu district model. It is still under discussion which brands will be introduced.
