"get a lunch box" - referring to when a character leaves a TV show permanently

领盒饭

A: Another character has "gotten a lunch box" on that show you have been watching these past two days.

你这两天一直在追的那部电视剧又有一个角色要下线领盒饭了。

(nǐ zhè liǎnɡ tiān yīzhí zài zhuī de nàbù diànshìjù yòu yǒu yīɡè juésè yào xiàxiàn lǐnɡ héfàn le.)

B: This show really knows how to torture our hearts. Those characters that everyone likes keep dying one after another. But, did you know where this saying "get a lunch box" comes from?

这部剧太虐心了,那些招人喜欢的人物接二连三就这样死了。不过你知道领盒饭这说法是怎么来的吗?

(zhè bù jù tài nüèxīn le, nàxiē zhāo rén xǐhuān de rénwù jiē èr lián sān jiù zhèyànɡ sǐ le. bùɡuò nǐ zhīdào lǐnɡ héfàn zhè shuōfǎ shì zěnme láide ma?)

A: This comes from a film about background actors. Each time filming ends, these extras can get a lunch box.

这出自一部讲配角演员的电影。这些人每次拍完戏,都能领一份盒饭。
