Two Bangladeshi and two Chinese companies on Saturday signed two joint venture pacts to build 102 kilometers of rail lines and the required infrastructure in the country's southeastern Cox's Bazar district, which borders Myanmar.

The rail lines will be dual-gauge, and 185 major and minor bridges will be built under two different projects. A station will also be constructed under the project in Cox's Bazar.

Officials said that the project will be partly supported by the Asian Development Bank.

The Manila-based lender will help Bangladesh establish double-track lines between Dhaka and Chittagong.

Railway officials said the project is scheduled to be completed in three years.
