With the increasing popularity of private cars, it has become extremely difficult to find parking spaces in Shanghai. To this end, a project for developing more parking spaces was implemented by the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, Shanghai Morning Post reported Monday.

Thus far, Shanghai has completed 139 shared parking resources with 5,465 individual shared parking spaces for residential, hospitals, schools and other key areas.

Ruijin Hospital is well known for being short of parking spaces. To this end, SAIC-Shanghai Culture Square, 300 meters from the hospital, now provides 236 shared parking spaces for hospital visitors and employees between 8 am and 5 pm.

In the future, Shanghai will develop more shared parking spaces and expand parking facilities by the "13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20)" period. The city is expected to add 1.5 million spaces by the period.
