At least four people were wounded on Monday when a booby-trapped motorcycle went off in the northeastern city of Qamishly in the Hasakah province, state news agency SANA reported.

The motorcycle blew up at the Siyaha Street in Qamishly, said SANA.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the bombing, with its news agency, Amaq, saying the blast targeted a vehicle transporting Kurdish fighters with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The IS militants had previously carried out similar bombings in Qamishly and Hasakah in general, as this northeastern region is largely controlled by the US-backed Kurdish forces.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have recently launched a wide-scale offensive against IS in the southern countryside of Hasakah and the northern countryside of Deir al-Zour province in eastern Syria.

The group has already become in control of over 70 percent of IS de facto capital of Raqqa in northern Syria.
