"My child is a bit younger, so the half-day class suits him. We can play with him in the morning and send him to the kindergarten in the afternoon. By the time he starts to get fussy, we will be there to pick him up."

So said a father surnamed Li who sends his son to a half-day class at a public kindergarten in Dongcheng district. In 2016, some public kindergartens in Beijing initiated a half-day pilot program for kids under three years old to give more kids access to the city's oversubscribed public kindergarten school system. However, some parents complain that it is too troublesome to drop off and pick up children only for a half-day of school and that it makes it hard for the kids to develop the habit of napping at noon. Meanwhile, other parents think it is more suitable for younger children who are new to attending kindergarten. (Source: Beijing Daily)
