China's youth Internet users reached 277 million, accounting for nearly one-third of the total number of Internet users. Young people's "net" age is becoming constantly younger yet facing the growing threat of online security breaches.

The 2017 Cyber Security Awareness Week was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Tuesday. A millennium generation growth protection report led by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Internet Research Center was officially released, Shanghai Morning Post reported Wednesday.

The report shows that Chinese millennials aged 12 to 19 have an Internet penetration rate of 92 percent, far higher than the global rate, as most started using the Internet in primary or junior high school.

In the report, the current risks to teenagers accessing the Internet include bad information, network addiction and cyber bullying. Among them, 85.7 percent of respondents encountered bad information on the Internet.
