Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos extended warm wishes to the Chinese people over the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

"On behalf of the Greek people, I would like to extend to the Chinese people our warm wishes for China's National Day. I wish, we wish, the Chinese people prosperity and success in all sectors," Pavlopoulos said in a televised message for China's National Day that falls on Oct. 1.

The message was recorded by Xinhua on Tuesday during his visit to Herakleidon museum opposite the Acropolis hill in Athens, which currently hosts an exhibition of ancient Chinese science and technology as part of the Greece-China 2017 Year of Cultural Exchanges and Culture Industry Cooperation.

The two great ancient civilizations have sailed along the same direction in many cases and today they are sailing toward the same direction even closer, the Greek President said.

"Today our two countries, despite the differences in their size, population, and even in their political systems, are working together closely and in harmony to consolidate peace, prosperity and progress worldwide," Pavlopoulos said, expressing Greece's pleasure of cooperating with China.

"We should remember, through Chinese philosophy as well, that mankind's creativity and prosperity can only be achieved through peace. This is a value that we need to safeguard," the Greek president said.

"I wish that they (the Chinese people) will contribute with all their strength not only to China's prosperity, but also to promoting development, peace and prosperity for all mankind," he said.
