Thailand's fugitive former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, to whom a five-year jail term has been delivered by court on Wednesday, is currently hiding out in Dubai, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha confirmed on Thursday.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had unofficially confirmed that Yingluck is currently hiding out in the United Arab Emirates' city of Dubai following her escape from Thailand last month.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled the former lady leader guilty of duty negligence and misconduct and sentenced her to five years in prison.

A second arrest warrant was issued for the authorities to find and bring her to jail.

She had failed to appear in court to be delivered such a verdict last month and was believed to have slipped out of the country with the help of some police officers and finally made it to Dubai, where her own brother, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been staying in self-exile since nearly a decade ago.

Prayut commented that it is the responsibility of the police to find and bring Yingluck back to this country and be put in prison. He said the Thai police may call on the Interpol for help.

Besides, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may consider revoking Yingluck's passport to mount pressure upon her travels overseas, according to Prayut.
