The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and its music director and conductor Jaap van Zweden staged their interpretation of Bruckner's 8th Symphony on Saturday night as part of this year's Beijing Music Festival (BMF).

In order to help the audience better understand Bruckner's music, Van Zweden, called "the leading interpreter of Bruckner's symphonies" by BBC Music Magazine and also head of the New York Philharmonic, sat down with the audience along with BMF artistic director Yu Long before the performance.

The concert, Sounding Cathedral Architecture, focused on one of Austrian composer Anton Bruckner's most famous and longest symphonies - the nearly 80-minute-long 8th Symphony.

The performance also marked the return of Bruckner's music to the BMF after his 6th Symphony was staged in 2002 by Chinese conductor Lü Jia and the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra from Sweden.
