Spanish bathroom brand Roca cooperates with JD.com

Leading international Spanish bathroom brand Roca signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China's e-commerce giant JD.com on November 7.

The signing ceremony also included the online launch of Roca's new Inspira bathroom series. The cooperation aims to promote Sino-EU trade by creating a new level of cooperation with e-commerce platforms to welcome the arrival of unbounded retail transformation and enhance globalization.

The Spanish Embassy in Beijing's economic and commercial counsellor Sergio Pérez Saiz, the general manager of Roca China Emilio Salazar, the vice president of JD.com and the president of JD Home and Life Xin Lijun, the general manager of JD Home and Life's furniture department Zhao Lijuan, the senior designer of NOA design studio Yin Yu and the well-known designer Shi Nanqiao attended the event.

With the emergence of the post-90s consumer base, end user demand and the frequency and mode of communication have changed. Brands expect to establish unique business scenarios to effectively reach the target consumer group in a fragmented social ecology and provide a better consumption experience. According to JD.com, the retail industry will experience its fourth retail revolution in the next 10 to 20 years, which will change the entire retail infrastructure.

Noting that China was the fourth most important destination for Spanish export in the sanitary appliances and bathroom fixtures sectors in 2016 with 42 million euros, Saiz hailed Roca as one of the "pioneering Spanish brands in the market."

"[Roca] has great potential for growth in China, one of the most competitive markets in the world," said Saiz.

He added that the partnership would be mutually beneficial, as JD.com is a key partner in China and "has already provided an excellent variety of consumer goods from Spain, such as cosmetics, home furniture, and food and beverages."

As the centennial brand to forge a strategic cooperation with JD.com, Roca underscored the new era concept of unbounded retail. "Roca believes that China is developing rapidly in the Internet era. We've foreseen the market opportunities in the field of e-commerce and adjusted our strategies in China, focusing more on the retail and e-commerce layout," said Salazar. "Through our cooperation with JD.com, we hope that we could start a new mode of bathroom e-commerce business."

Salazar and Xin signed the strategic cooperation agreement. Xin said that by working together Roca and JD.com would enhance product value, bring more international, high-quality products and a better life experience to Chinese consumers.

"Innovation is the key element in Roca's corporate culture, which also matches with ours," Xin said. "In the near future, JD.com and Roca will further cooperate in brand building, product innovation and other related fields."

The Roca Inspira series, which combines art and life, was exclusively launched via JD.com. The application of innovative fine-ceramic technology and its extreme 5 millimeter fine-ceramic sensory design has made the Inspira series a breakout design. Its innovative products and the continuous development of new market channels indicate Roca's determination to develop omni-channel distribution.

To this end, it has expanded its online sales channels and plans to bring a more extreme shopping experience to consumers to drive the arrival of the company's new retail transformation in the era of globalization.
