China allowed three UCLA basketball players to leave China after they were detained for shoplifting in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province.

LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were allowed to leave after the situation was "resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities," said Larry Scott, commissioner of the Pacific-12 athletic conference, of which UCLA is a member.

"We are aware of reports that the three Americans arrested in China were permitted to leave. Due to privacy concerns we have no further comment," the US Consulate in Shanghai told the Global Times.

US President Donald Trump earlier said he had asked his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to help in the case, CNN reported.

The team returned to the US Saturday night and left the three behind in Hangzhou, who were investigated.
