"Shanghai Port intercepted a pest!"

Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone office, recently intercepted a dangerous pest while inspecting imported goods from Poland valued at $14,200. The pest turned out to be a Maladera Orientalis, aka the velvet chafer, an oval-shaped beetle, 8 mm long and 4 mm wide. This was the first time Shanghai port had seen this species here, Knews reported Monday. Maladera Orientalis can have a serious negative impact on 150 species of plants. In order to prevent the invasion and spread of this pest, the imported goods went into quarantine.
