Qiangsheng taxi company confirmed to Xinmin Evening News Monday that they will discontinue operations of its 50-fleet retro taxis, as the factory that manufactured this model has shut down the line.

The old-style taxi was put into the local market in 2014 to better serve people with disabilities, as they offered better accessibility than normal modern taxis. Because of its vintage appearance, the taxi became popular among local Shanghai residents despite its slightly higher 19-yuan ($2.87) starting fare.

The taxi company put out on the road 150 multifunctional barrier-free taxis in 2016 and 2017, including 50 five-seat cars and 100 seven-seat cars. The starting fee was also 19 yuan.

The company said it will continue to issue multi-functional barrier-free types of taxis into the market.
