Local farmers have started immersing fresh-picked vegetables in water storage tanks located out in the fields in order to keep their crops fresh. The problem, however, is that the water in these tanks quickly becomes dirty and stagnant, which can breed bacteria and insects and, thus, contaminate the food, according to experts quoted by Shanghai Morning Post Thursday. Authorities warn that only fresh, clean water should be used in farming. Illustration: Lu Ting/GT
