A Russian-made communication satellite that was successfully put into orbit earlier has lost contact with the ground, the manufacturer of the spacecraft said Wednesday.

The Angosat communication satellite was built by Russia's Energia Rocket and Space Corporation for Angola to provide broadcasting of TV programs in the African country.

It was successfully put into orbit late on Tuesday, but after a while telemetric information ceased to arrive, according to Energia.

"Energia specialists are working on the resumption of the regular work of the spacecraft," it said in a statement.

On Nov. 28, Russia launched a rocket carrying 19 satellites, but the base lost communication with the spacecraft shortly after it took off.

It was later confirmed that the upper stage of the rocket carrying the satellites fell into the ocean.
