"I switched to Yang after I realized that Ye, who I was in a relationship with for several months, did not have much money."

So said a man surnamed Wu who was recently arrested by Chaoyang police on suspicion of fraud. In June last year, a woman surnamed Ye met Wu and moved in with him days later. Wu then conned Ye into lending him 170,000 yuan ($26,167) with claims that his father was ill and he wanted to rent a place to run a supermarket. After receiving the funds, Wu did not allow Ye to visit his father in the hospital and he did not open the supermarket. In September, Ye received a call from a woman surnamed Yang. Yang was looking for Wu and had mistakenly dialed Ye's number. After talking a while, the women realized that their boyfriends were the same person and called the police. Wu had also cheated Yang out of money. Wu said that he was unemployed and had a lot of gambling debt, so he made up two names and dated the two women to get money. (Source: The Beijing Morning Post)
