As of press time, three people have been rescued, although another 10 are still missing, after a cargo ship crashed into another ship and sank off the Shanghai coast Tuesday night, thepaper.cn reported Wednesday.

According to local water traffic management authorities, the Changping freighter, loaded with 5,000 tons of steel and 13 crew members, collided with another freighter, the Xinwang 138, with 11 crew members, before sinking near Wusong estuary. Wusong Maritime Safety Administration enacted its emergency plan immediately after the accident. The first rescue boat arrived in under 10 minutes. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. "The freezing weather is threatening those stranded in the water. We will be speeding up during the first 72 golden hours," said an official surnamed Huang.
