"I thought it was okay for old people to eat some expensive vegetables to keep healthy. So, I ordered the vegetables."

So said a man in his 70s surnamed Wu. Early last year, Wu ordered a set package of organic vegetables for 19,800 yuan ($3,034) from a company. The company said it would return 18 percent of the money Wu spent to him every month. But after sending Wu vegetables for two months, the company disappeared. It was later found that many other old people encountered similar scams. One of them even lost 100,000 yuan. According to Wu, a friend introduced the company to him and he even went to have a look at the vegetable base in Tongzhou district along with many other senior citizens who also had an interest in ordering organic vegetables from the company. But according to an employee at the vegetable base, the company involved only rented their land for a short time and left when the lease expired. The police are investigating the case.
