"The company asked for up to 71 percent interest every month, which was too much for Zhang to repay."

So said Cao Yu, a prosecutor from the Haidian District People's Procuratorate about a woman surnamed Zhang who borrowed 35,000 yuan ($5,364) from a loan company in March last year. They agreed that Zhang would give the company 60,000 yuan after a month. However, Zhang was unable to pay back the money and tried to hide from the debt collectors. After three months, an employee surnamed Wu along with two other company employees found Zhang in Fengtai district. They took Zhang to an apartment in Haidian district where they confined her for about 70 hours and forced her to borrow money from people over the phone. Zhang called the police when the three were not looking. The three employees were prosecuted. (Source: The Beijing Morning Post)
