Public security data from Shanghai revealed that traffic congestion and related accidents dropped 17 percent and 20 percent respectively due to heavy police presence, Wenhui Daily reported Sunday.

With continuous snowfall over the weekend, the local road administration department continued to tackle road traffic safety and strengthen measures to safeguard against emergencies.

Police kept a close eye on road conditions this weekend and enhanced the dimension of their patrols as well as camera surveillance in order to resolve possible congestion and accidents caused by the snowy visibility and icy road conditions.

In addition, road maintenance companies checked bridges, viaducts and large-scale interchange ramps in order to eliminate security risks and prepare adequate emergency equipment and materials at those locations.
