An online survey, conducted by the social survey center of Jiefang Daily and KuRunData, asked how much on average local residents receive for their annual work bonus, Jiefang Daily reported Sunday.

Over 1,000 citizens aged 18 to 60 who have lived in Shanghai for over two years were sampled randomly with an equal male to female ratio. Two thirds of those surveyed received less than 10,000 yuan ($1,588) for their annual bonus; 35 percent received between 10,000 yuan and 50,000 yuan; while only 4 percent received over 50,000 yuan.

An annual bonus is also in proportional to one's monthly salary, as 40 percent of those whose monthly income exceeds 10,000 yuan receive a year-end award between 10,000 and 25,000 yuan.

Twenty-two percent of respondents felt their bonus is more than enough to cover Spring Festival expenses, but 23 percent think it is not enough.
