City sees surge in theater, museum ticket sales

Over the recent Spring Festival holiday, cinemas in the city saw 180 million yuan ($28 million) in revenue between February 15 to Tuesday, a 31 percent increase over the same period in 2017, Xinmin Evening News reported Thursday.

Statistics show that there were over 4 million patrons at local movie theaters. Operation Red Sea and Detective Chinatown II were among the most popular films. Animated movies were also shown at Shanghai Disney Resort and Shanghai Circus World. Additionally, public libraries and community cultural activity centers stayed open during the holiday week, resulting in over 600,000 visits.

Stage theaters received 8 million yuan in tickets by offering hundreds of shows. And 80 museums stayed open during the holiday week, receiving 200,938 visits.

Over 150,000 visitors attended 60 exhibitions at art galleries, also an increase from 2017.
