Minister vows to build iron wall around capital city

A Ministry of Public Security official vowed to build an iron wall to maintain stability in the capital city ahead of important meetings.

Minister Zhao Kezhi asked national police to place themselves in a state of actual combat and build an iron wall to protect Beijing's political and social stability in preparation for the ongoing Third Plenary Session of the 19th Communist Party of China Central Committee and another two sessions in March,, a news website under the public security ministry, reported on Monday.

Zhao said that the police stations in and around Beijing should exclude safety hazards outside the capital, while in the meantime try not to disturb residents. Zhao also urged police to use technology and big data to find potential risks and examine every suspicious vehicle, person and item.

China's State Post Bureau issued a notice asking bureaus from all over the country to carefully examine parcels. Parcels sent to ministries and bureaus should be examined twice, reported on Friday.

A deliveryman from Chinese delivery company SF Express told the Global Times that they were asked to examine parcels more carefully than before recently, but they will guarantee no delay in delivery. "It's OK as long as you don't send dangerous stuff," he said.

The notice also said that the government should also rectify places with safety hazards or even shut down factories that cannot guarantee safe production in order to prevent incidents such as a fire or car accident.
