The book launch for the Silk Road in Ink Wash Paintings - the new book by Feng Yishu, a former diplomat with China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs - was held on Saturday at the Network Center of International Cultural Exchange (NICE) in Beijing.

"The new Eurasia Land Bridge, which stretches from the Arctic Ocean to the Indian Ocean and from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic Sea, is the main focus of the book as well as the cultural connections between Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states," Feng Yishu told the Global Times.

A painter as well as a writer, Feng is also behind many of the paintings and illustrations that appear in the book.

"I really want to introduce the symbol of Chinese culture, which I think is Confucianism, to other countries. I focus on the history of China's exchanges with the outside world, which also echoes today's One Belt, One Road initiative," Feng said at the launch.

The book is in both Chinese and Russian. The translator of the Russian section of the book is Paletskiy Denis, a Russian Sinologist who has studied Chinese culture for many years.

"I think the book is more than just a culture study, it is also a good book for those who are learning Chinese or Russian," Paletskiy said at the launch.

When asked about his thoughts on the future of cultural exchanges in China, Feng said he is confident the book will inspire many young people in China to study and share the country's traditional culture  with the rest of the world.
