Russia: UN Russian Language Day hailed

The Russian Cultural Center in Beijing hosted a ceremonial event on June 6, marking the United Nations (UN) Russian Language Day, which was scheduled to coincide with the renowned Russian poet Pushkin's birthday. Representatives and experts of Russian language schools from several local universities were invited to the event.

Students from Minzu University of China, Beihang University, Beijing Normal University and Beijing Foreign Studies University presented on-stage performances such as drama, singing and movie dubbing. Olga Melnikova, a counselor at the Russian Embassy and the director of the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, gave a speech in which she reaffirmed Pushkin's status and role in Russian literature and poetry and introduced the origin of Russian Language Day. Also at the event, awards were given to the Russian language experts who have made contributions to spreading Russian language in China. The students who completed their Russian language training course at the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing also received their graduate certificates from the center.
