The US State Department confirmed on Thursday that officials from the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will meet on Sunday in Panmunjom along the inter-Korean border to discuss the repatriation of the remains of American soldiers killed in the Korean War.

The DPRK side on Thursday "contacted us and offered to meet on July 15th (Sunday)," said Heather Nauert, the spokesperson of the US State Department, in a statement.

"We will be ready," she added.

As an outcome of the US-DPRK leaders' Singapore summit in mid June, Pyongyang and Washington agreed to commit to recovering the remains of prisoners of war and those missing in action during the 1950-53 Korean War, including an immediate repatriation of those already identified.
