Flight CA106, from Hong Kong to Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, made an emergency landing in Dalian on Tuesday, after a co-pilot had, without telling the pilot, attempted to turn off a circulation fan to prevent smoke from reaching the cabin, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said on Friday.

This caused the oxygen level to drop and trigger an alarm, as the plane dropped to just 3,000 meters, the CAAC said.

The CAAC said an investigation is ongoing.

Air China on Friday issued a statement saying that it holds "zero tolerance" towards safety violations, so it fired the whole crew and suspended their flight qualifications.

The pilot's license was also revoked.

The emergency landing did not lead to any casualties or damage to the plane.

The airline will also conduct safety seminars for its employees.
