The 240,000 Party members in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang Province are required to wear the emblem of the Communist Party of China in a bid to strengthen the Party's leadership.

The Jiaxing government issued the regulation on Monday ordering all Party members to wear their Party emblems at work or school, thepaper.cn reported.

The report said Party members are also required to wear the emblem on other occasions, such as important Party events or when they take part in volunteer work.

Retired Party members, those in foreign affairs-related events and other special activities have the option to wear the emblem depending on the situation, the report said.

The regulation can strengthen the Party's core leadership, and can also facilitate stronger supervision of Party members.

The regulation also noted that regular inspections should be conducted, and the results should be used in the assessment of Party members, the report added.

The city has 240,000 Party members, local news portal cnjxol.com reported.

On August 14, the local government issued a notice requiring Party members to be neatly dressed when wearing the emblem and stressed that the emblem should be pinned on the upper left chest, where it can be easily seen.

The first National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held in 1921 in Jiaxing, marking the Party's birth.
