The 10th National Congress of Returned Overseas Chinese and their Relatives will be held in Beijing from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, according to a press briefing by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (AFROC) on Friday.

The congress takes place as socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, during the decisive stage in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, said Qiao Wei, vice president of the AFROC.

It is thus a major event in the political lives of overseas and returned overseas Chinese and their relatives, he added.

He said that the congress will reflect on the work of the federation since the 9th National Congress, and lay out the tasks for the next five years.

It will also feature the revision to the AFROC's constitution and the election of the new committee and leadership of the federation.

According to Qiao, nearly 1,300 delegates and 700 overseas Chinese will participate in the congress, including 33 representatives from some grassroots organizations for overseas Chinese.
