L Storm, the third film in the Hong Kong Z Storm action crime franchise, is scheduled to hit Chinese mainland cinemas on September 14, the film's producers announced at a Beijing press conference on Wednesday.

The film follows a Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and Joint Financial Intelligence Unit (JFIU) investigation into an anti-money laundering case that is later found to involve a high-ranking mainland official.

According to the film's producer Raymond Wong, the new film will include more action scenes than previous films in the franchise.

Featuring anti-graft cooperation between mainland and Hong Kong authorities - something rarely shown in Chinese movies - the action film features a star-studded cast including Louis Koo and Julian Cheung and also includes mainland stars from the 2017 hit anti-graft drama In the Name of People.

Ding Haifeng, the mainland actor who played the head of a public security bureau in the mainland drama, stars as the director of the mainland's anti-graft bureau in L Storm.

Feng Lei, who plays the corrupt official in the  new film, also starred in the role of the villain for In the Name of People.

"The participation of these mainland stars makes the film far more thrilling," Wong said at the press conference.
