The price of locally bred hairy crabs declines

A price decline for Shanghai hairy crabs has hit the season, eastday.com reported Monday. However, customers must wait for bigger and better-quality crabs to arrive.

A vendor at an aquatic products market in Baoshan district told media that hairy crabs currently being sold are too tiny to satisfy foodies. Those of bigger and better quality will arrive by Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.

Some vendors have started selling hairy crabs for only 15 yuan ($2.18) each due to their small size. According to vendors, the climate this year has been more suitable to breed crabs, leading to an ideal yield.

As crabs from Hongze Lake in East China's  Jiangsu Province were polluted in August, the yield from that region dropped dramatically but it had no considerable impact on market in Shanghai.
