A female internet celebrity surnamed Yang was given a five-day administrative detention for violating China's national anthem law by Shanghai Jing'an Public Security Bureau, their official Weibo account announced Saturday.

In October, the 20-year-old woman jokingly sang part of the national anthem while live-streaming on huya.com, one of China's popular video platforms, with inappropriate background music. She has more than 1 million followers on Weibo.

After being criticized by netizens, Yang made an apology twice on her Weibo. Jing'an police stated that the national anthem represents and symbolizes China. All citizens and institutions should respect and maintain its dignity. Internet live-streamers should also abide by the law. The authorities have a responsibility to clean up cyber space.
