Hollywood anti-hero action thriller Venom is set to debut in the Chinese mainland on Friday.

The producers of the film, which has earned $543 million worldwide, obviously have high expectations for the world's second largest film market.

With Chinese tech giant Tencent's film branch Tencent Pictures one of the producers, the film depicting Marvel superhero Spider-Man's infamous nemesis includes quite a number of Chinese elements, such as characters that speak in Cantonese or Putonghua (Standard Chinese). The movie's main character Eddie Brock is also seen using QQ, an instant message app developed by Tencent - which some fans have jokingly called "a successful product placement aimed at Chinese audiences."

The PG-13 film's mainland edition is practically the same as its North American version except for the removal of one Easter egg, according to a report from Chinese entertainment platform Sina Entertainment.

The film currently has more than 360,000 want-to-see votes on Chinese ticketing platform Maoyan.
