A South Korea-Myanmar contemporary art exchange exhibition is underway in Myanmar's Yangon to mark the 70th anniversary Myanmar's Independence and the 30th anniversary of South Korea-ASEAN dialogue partnership.

Beginning Saturday, the five-day art exhibition, held at the National Museum, is displaying 31 paintings by 12 Myanmar artists and 11 paintings by South Korean artists along with four sculptures by 14 South Korean artists.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, South Korean Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa said, "The art of painting is not limited to people from around the world, regardless of whatever languages they are speaking. So, people speaking different languages can communicate through the message the paintings give."

The ambassador added that South Korea is trying to further strengthen its good ties with all member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) including Myanmar.

Meanwhile, a South Korean cultural concert is to take place in Nay Pyi Taw next week, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Sunday.
