Beijing Council's autumn auction season kicked off on Wednesday with an event that saw four items sell for more than 10 million yuan ($1.45 million) each.

The Important Chinese Ceramics from Private Collections auction brought in a total of 79.29 million yuan.

Among the four highest-selling items was a blue and white plate decorated with grapes dating back to the Yongle Period of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The plate sold for 13.22 million yuan, almost four times its starting price of 3.5 million yuan.

This auction season will see a number of ancient paintings and calligraphy works from renowned Chinese painters, including Shi Tao, Fu Shan and Wang Duo, go under the hammer.

Contemporary art will also be featured, including works from Japanese artist Nara Yoshimoto.
