The Chinese delegation promoted the country's film festival on climate change at the Conference of the Parties (COP24) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change on Thursday, in Katowice, Poland.

The Handle Climate Change Film Festival (HCCFF), started in China, is the world's first film festival which focuses on climate change.

The festival is held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, each year to raise the public's awareness of climate change.

Chen Suping, chairman of Shenzhen Handle Cultural Investment Co Ltd, told the Global Times on Thursday that the event is dedicated to bringing together films about climate change and environmental protection and encourage filmmakers to highlight climate change through films.

It is also dedicated to disseminating climate change knowledge, raising public awareness of climate change and contributing to the care of the earth, he said.

Sun Zhen, deputy director general of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that the film festival has become a brand of China on climate communication, and a platform to spread knowledge on climate change.

Since 2015, HCCFF has held three sessions in Shenzhen. Alongside the main event in September, the organizing committee has held an annual press conference, 2016 in Marrakech, 2017 in Bonn and 2018 in Katowice, and has called for entries for the 2019 HCCFF award and also welcomes experts in the climate fields and media to join this crossover event on climate action in October in Shenzhen.
