New dance drama Deep in Memory was staged at Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts on Saturday and Sunday night.

The dance drama explores the tragedy and pain of the Nanjing Massacre, an episode of mass murder and rape in which more than 300,000 unarmed Chinese soldiers and civilians lost their lives when Japanese forces attacked the city of Nanjing in Jiangsu Province in 1937.

The massacre is restaged through the perspective of American-Chinese writer Iris Chang, whose The Rape of Nanking once appeared on the New York Times Bestseller list.

The drama received positive reviews from audiences when staged during the Shanghai International Arts Festival in November.
