Premier Li Keqiang has demanded more efforts to exercise full and strict governance over the Party in governments at all levels.

Li made the remarks on Monday when presiding over a meeting of the leading Party members' group of the State Council to study General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping's recent speech on Party governance.

Xi made the speech at the third plenary session of the 19th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC.

A statement released after the meeting underlined the importance of political work in Party building and spoke of the need to closely follow the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi at the core in terms of thinking, political orientation, and actions.

Attendees at the meeting stressed the need to further cut government reviews and approvals, protect the legitimate property rights of enterprises of all ownership, stimulate the market vitality and societal creativity and eradicate the hotbed of rent-seeking and corruption.

They urged more efforts to guard against the practice of formalities for formalities' sake and bureaucratism and vowed to take the lead to practice frugality.

They also stressed enhancing the accountability mechanism and called for concrete efforts so that major economic and social development targets for this year can be achieved.

Han Zheng, vice premier and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting.
