China and Kazakhstan are aiming to build stronger ties focusing on cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative.

This consensus was reached during the meeting between China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and visiting Kazakh Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov in Beijing on Thursday.

Wang said that in the past six years, the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Kazakhstan has always been at the forefront, and has achieved fruitful results, with impact in the Eurasian region and on the rest of the world.

Atamkulov responded by saying Kazakhstan will expand industrial energy cooperation projects and the scale of trade between the two countries.

He added that cooperation in agriculture, energy, industry, personnel training and infrastructure will be strengthened.

After the talks, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries from 2020 to 2022.

Wang Yi said China and Kazakhstan share the same vision and complement each other, adding that the prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation are broad and promising.

Atamkulov is paying an official visit to China from March 28 to 29. This is his first official visit to China since taking office last December.

The Kazakh foreign minister is also expected to meet with Chinese state leaders.
