BRI naysayers ridiculed by common sense and reality

Many people throughout the US and the West have been critical of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). They have accused Beijing of possessing "geopolitical ambitions." The same critics also made accusations claiming BRI was "trapping" developed countries by ensnaring them with debt. With the opening of the 2nd BRI International Cooperation summit in Beijing, US and Western media have launched a new campaign to create further confusion.

Today, investment scarce worldwide. Most countries, the US included, encourage outside capital to participate in domestic development. US President Donald Trump apparently has been one of the few US presidents to welcome foreign investment. Earlier, international opinions mainly focused on a country's poor management skills that caused late loan payments, but never aimed at countries who had invested in less-developed nations.

China is undoubtedly the first powerful nation to be accused of "trapping" developing countries with debt through infrastructure investing. The accusations are not coming from the developed countries who have been on the receiving end of Chinese investments. Instead, they are coming from the US, an irrelevant country, along with their western allies. With all of this combined, unfavorable conditions have emerged never witnessed in the history of international investment and cooperation.

Most BRI projects are not a form of aid but rather investments. If a country that has received investment funds experiences a financial collapse and can no longer make payments on a loan, China would have an insurmountable stack of bills. Should this occur, China would be the more anxious one. When China develops a project with a country, it needs to take into consideration their debt-paying abilities. This does not exclude situations where countries have trouble paying off their debts on certain projects, which is not what China expects, nor is it setting an intentional "trap."

For the sake of attacking China, the US and other critics have lost their abilities to use logic and common sense, and even rational thinking. And for those especially confused in Washington DC, they have implemented nonsensical policies against China.

Some Westerners are surprisingly extreme and self-righteous. Clearly, developing countries do not welcome the "Debt Trap" theory and show their contempt toward rumors that they have become victims of Chinese neocolonialism, while some people in the West still advocate such fallacies. Slandering China reveals delusional and unreasonable thinking.

Unfortunately for the critics, facts speak louder than words. BRI is welcomed by many countries, including nations who have a close relationship with the US. Recently, Italy and Switzerland have participated in BRI projects. So far, over 120 countries have signed BRI cooperation agreements. Such powerful facts mock the US while serving as the Western paradox for BRI.

BRI has emerged as a new advance cooperation platform involving significant investments and allowing necessary exploration and adjustments. When Chinese companies discuss projects with foreign parties, they have learned from past projects that were eventually shelved. They conduct thorough research and make greater efforts on pertinent work which increases BRI reliability.

BRI is welcomed by many countries but it is routinely criticized by Western media who cannot be bothered with the truth. Where professional ethics are concerned, it is shameful how US media is in "first position" regardless of facts.

Lying, being farfetched, and holding such opinions will not have any real influence. BRI is a groundbreaking international endeavor for the 21st century. The initiative has shown such powerful growth that even the greatest of obstacles cannot block. BRI will never be talked down to, and those who choose to speak negatively about it will only harm their own reputation.
