Only men need apply to take part in a medical test to help a hospital in Southwest China determine if one of the most famous medicines in the world is really better than the generic Chinese version.

Men aged between 18 and 35 will be sought to participate in the test of tadalafil tablets, the main ingredient in some of the medicines used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED).

The test is to take four days and eight nights and participants will be paid 15,000 yuan ($2,182), according to a viral Sina Weibo post by a local blogger.

The test is to be conducted by West China Hospital in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, said the Weibo post.

The social media post didn't mention how the test would be conducted and how many times a participant would have to take the drugs.

A Chinese version of the medicine has already been approved and is available on the market. The test aims to compare domestically made tablets to imported medicines such as Viagra.

If the two brands are equally effective, the hospital's doctors will recommend their patients buy the less costly Chinese version, a doctor at the research center of the hospital told the Beijing News.

An eager reporter from the newspaper applied to take part in the study but was told it wouldn't start in one or two months.

Some netizens expressed their interest in the test, but were concerned about the risk of the side effects.
