F-16 military fighter jet crashes into California building

An F-16 fighter jet returning to March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley of California crashed into a building after its pilot was ejected, local media quoted base officials as saying on Thursday.

According to a release of the US Air Force Reserve, at about 3:40 p.m. on Thursday (2240 GMT), the F-16 fighter aircraft was conducting a training mission for North American Aerospace Defense Command and impacted the ground outside March Air Reserve Base in California.

The sole pilot on board ejected and has been transported to a local hospital for evaluation, said the release, adding that there were five reported injuries on the ground.

The incident is currently under investigation, said the release.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed on Twitter that the crash occurred around Van Buren and the 215 Freeway.

"Multiple agencies responding. Please stay out of area and clear emergency vehicles," the department tweeted.

Details on the crash and the pilot's condition have not been disclosed.
