Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh was in Cuba on an official visit, the local media reported.

Pham arrived at the Jose Marti International Airport on Sunday night.

He is scheduled to hold talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, President of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power Esteban Lazo, and other senior Cuban officials.

In 1960, Cuba became the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

Late Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro visited Vietnam in September 1973.

At present, Vietnam ranks among the top five investors in the Caribbean island country and the second in Asia, only behind China.

The bilateral trade between Havana and Hanoi grew from 175.42 million U.S. dollars in 2012 to 230 million dollars in 2016.
