A man in North China who went to hospital for a checkup was surprised to learn his "menstrual cycle" is out of whack, leading netizens to say the same thing about his doctor.

The man surnamed Liu from Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province went to a local hospital on Saturday where he had a blood test.

According to a video Liu shot and posted online, the patient history on the test sheet showed that over the past three months his "period" lasted more than 10 days and he has had an IUD for six years.

Liu's video soon went viral on Sina Weibo and the hospital on Sunday replied that the error was caused by an inexperienced doctor.

"The doctor is unfamiliar with the medical history system and did not carefully check the personal information before issuing the blood test sheet," the hospital's public notice said.

The hospital has apologized to the patient and will strengthen its regulation. The doctor was fined 1,000 yuan ($145) and required to write a self-criticism, said the notice.

The hospital's explanation didn't stop some netizens from suspecting a conspiracy.

A popular theory postulated by Net users was that the man's wife or another woman had used the man's medical insurance card to get a free checkup, leaving her patient history information in Liu's account.
