Civil aviation agreements signed by China and the the European Union (EU) will enrich the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang said Wednesday.

The signing also demonstrated their resolve to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation for common interests under current circumstances, he said.

Lu made the remarks at a press briefing when asked if China's increasing cooperation with the EU in civil aviation safety area was due to the safety concerns of Boeing aircraft.

China and the EU signed two milestone agreements on civil aviation in Brussels on Monday, the first of its kind ever reached in the 20 years of cooperation in the civil aviation sector between China and Europe.

Lu said the agreements marked a concrete measure to implement the joint statement of the 21st China-EU leaders' meeting last month, and both China and the EU have always had a strong will to cooperate in the field of civil aviation safety.

As for the safety concerns of Boeing aircraft, the spokesman said it is natural for relevant stakeholders to show concerns over safety risks of Boeing's relevant aircraft and claim their legitimate rights.
