Xi'an Lizhixing Automobile Co, a Mercedes Benz 4S dealership, was fined 1 million yuan ($145,000) under a settlement agreement according to investigation results published on Monday.

Upon the release of the results, car owner, surnamed Wang, who made headlines nationwide last month for sitting on the hood of a car in the dealership demanding a refund of her new, oil-leaking car, told the Beijing Youth Daily that she is relieved as the probe proved that she is not a liar.

Market regulators for the high-tech zone in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, announced probe conclusions after investigating cars leaking oil, saying that the dealership is involved in two charges by selling vehicles that do not meet the requirements for ensuring personal and property safety, news website cnwest.com reported.

The investigation discovered that the oil leakage was caused by damage on the right side of the engine block; there is no replacement or maintenance record for the engine and the engine's assembly quality defects are defined as product quality problems.

A fine of 500,000 yuan was given to the dealership for failing to meet the safety requirements, according to China's consumer protection law, the announcement said.

The dealership was fined another 500,000 yuan for misleading consumers to sign an advance payment service agreement with Shaanxi Yuansheng Auto Trading Co in the process of selling cars, which violates the Regulations on the Protection of Consumer Rights and Interests of Shaanxi Province.

Both penalties will be collected into the state treasury, the report said.

The conduct of Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co under the allegation of selling faulty products has been transferred to the ruling department according to law, the announcement said.
