 A video of a golden retriever apparently shows a super smart but lazy dog understanding its master's command to fetch a parcel, then faking a sore paw until the owners tells his pet the delivering was the canine's favorite food.

The video amused Chinese netizens with many giving a wink and a nod, suggesting the video was staged by the owner.

The video shows the dog lifting his sore front paw and hopping toward its master on three legs to show he is unable to comply with his owner's request to fetch a package, according to a video of Knews on Tuesday.

When his owner starts to tell the dog that the parcel is chicken breast from a well-known brand of dog food, the dog runs to fetch it with no sign of a limp. 

"I wouldn't have pretended to be lame if you had told me there was food in the parcel," reads subtitles on the video. 

Netizens said the retriever was obviously smart but believed it was no more than a trick designed to gain popularity on social media. 

"What an adorable and clever dog! He has the potential to be an actor," one netizen joked on Sina Weibo.
