Huayi Brothers’ stock plunged after its war film was yanked from SIFF opening event

Huayi Brothers' media stock tumbled 7.76 percent to close at 5.35 yuan ($0.77) on Monday after its war film was withdrawn from the opening ceremony of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) on Saturday.

Huayi's war epic The Eight Hundred was yanked by SIFF on the eve of opening event on Saturday. The film maker made an announcement on its official account on Sina Weibo saying that the withdrawal was due to "technical reasons".

The poster for the film was featured on the cover of the Festival Daily of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, placing it in the spotlight of the industry.

The film was scheduled to be released on July 5 in China.
